Route description
Bella Tola (top of the ski area) - Turtmannhütte
From the top of the Bella Tola chair lift (ca. 3000 m), descend the ski slopes to Pas de Bœuf then ascend (20 min) SE to the Borterpass. From the pass, descend the broad, gentle SE slopes W of the Meidsee, and down down down into the Äugsttolu valley, and locate the first marking poles leading round E of the Meidhoru. Follow the marking poles to Massstafel. From there, descend by the mountain road until, about 300 m after the hairpin bend (P. 2044), the forest opens up a little and you can drop down right Turtmanntal valley floor. This is where the real approach begins; follow the right hand (W) side of the valley past Vorder Sänntum (1902 m) and along to the Turtmann reservoir (2176 m). Depending on conditions, cross the lake directly, or cross the dam, then follow the summer path SE to the cable car used to transport equipment. Traverse the W facing slope beneath the rocky outcrop, and diagonally up to P. 2431, then cut back N to the nicely perched Turmannhütte via its very steep SW approach slope.
