Red-white to the Triftbrücke - blue-white to the Trifthütte

The ascent to the Trifthütte is a challenging hike and can be exposed in the upper part. The path is marked red-white until the Triftbrücke (bridge). If you take the Triftbahn from Schwendeli on the Sustenpass road the ascent will be shortened by 300 meters (or 2 hours). Variant: A rewarding detour via Windegghütte (1887 m) and the Ketteliweg takes an additional 1h. From the Triftbrücke (1761m) the path will follow a blue-white marked T4-hiking route. There are two 10m ladders and three stream crossings to tackle. These offer interesting challenges depending on the water level. In between are several exposed passages, but these are often secured with ropes and chains.

Route description

Bergstation Triftbahn to the Triftbrücke (suspension bridge)

From the mountain station "Underi Trift" (1357 m) follow a red-white marked trail in a southerly direction over the Triftwasser and on through the shady Trift to the turnoff to the Windegg hut 1887m. (The path that leads past the Windegghütte is a worthwhile detour and extends the climb by 1 hour.) Continue to the Triftbrücke (suspension bridge) at 1716 m.

From the suspension bridge through the 'Zwischen Tierbergen' to the Trifthütte.

From the Triftbrücke (suspension bridge) at 1761 m, follow the blue-white marked T4 hiking route to the Trifthütte. There are two 10m ladders and three creek crossings to tackle. These offer interesting challenges depending on the water level. In between are partly exposed passages, but these are often secured with ropes or chains.

Variant: Without (cheating with) the Triftbahn

Without the well-frequented Triftbahn you climb along the marked mountain trail over Erggeli in just over an hour and a half to the Underen Trift, where you join the 'lazy ones' on route from the Triftbahn.
