This is a popular tour on wide north-facing slopes. The last metres require some scrambling. Thanks to the high altitude of the starting point, the tour is possible until late into spring. The ascent can be shortened by using the Tossen ski-lift. This way Tierhöri can be added after climbing Ammertenspitz vis-à-vis.
Route description
Engstligenalp – ski depot
From the summit station of the aerial cableway go to the eastern edge of Engstligenalp, where the creek coming down the south-west face of Tschingellochtighorn reaches the valley floor. On the Märbene slopes ascend towards the Chindbettihore west face until the depression with Tossenseelein (ca. 2330 m, not named on the map). Continue south-eastward increasingly steeply until the foot of the Chindbettihore west face. Now traverse right to reach Chindbettipass (2623 m). Ascend the wide north ridge of Tierhöri below the summit structure, which is bypassed on the right (west). Leave the skis behind in the ski depot at ca. 2870 m.
Ski depot – Tierhöri
Climb the well-tiered rocks on the south-east side to reach the summit.
Variant: using the Tossen ski-lift
From the summit station at 2360 m ascend eastward, where you meet the itinerary described above.
