Rewarding hiking mountains overshadowed by Pilatus
From Rägeflüeli and Studberg you overlook the entire Eigental and have a view far into the Mittelland and up to Pilatus. In 1453 Lucerne acquired Eigental, particularly for its timber. From 1870 on the growing city has used the valley’s water, later it was a drill ground for troops and subsequently the city’s school organised summer camps in the valley. After the Second World War the Swiss army occupied the area around Blattenloch, Trochematt and Pfifferswald as a shooting range. It is still used for shooting, when and where exactly is published at www.vtg.admin.ch; you may also call 041 319 32 32.

The stretch from P. 1399 to Rägeflüeli is challenging. Often the faint path on the shady side of Rägeflüeli is hardly visible in the grass. Use your instinct. Small landslides force you to hike up and down at the foot of the rock wall. The grassy gully up to the Rägeflüeli summit is steep, somewhat slippery, but not exposed.
