Beneath the imposing walls of the Schlossberg
The ascent from Engelberg to the Spannorthütte begins comfortably along the Engelberger Aa (river), but quickly steepens under the walls of the Schlossberg. Although the approach is designated as a white-red-white hiking trail, it has a few exposed passages and even a short climbing section. The classification as T3 therefore seems justified.
Route description
Fürenalpbahn valley station - Herrenrüti
From the Herrenrütiboden car park (Fürenalp cable car / P. 1083), follow the road to Herrenrüti.
Herrenrüti - Niedersurenen
Now cross the Engelberger Aa (river) and walk through some scenic woodland to Lower Suren (rest. Alpenrösli) on the southern side of the stream.
Niedersurenen - Alp Stäfeli - Spannorthütte
Cross back over the river to the Alpenrösli restaurant, then follow the wide hiking trail to Restaurant Stäfeli. Cross the river (again) and follow the steep, marked path over the Geissrüggen to the Spannorthütte SAC.
