Solvaybiwak SAC 4003 m
An emergency cabin on Matterhorn. The shelter on Hörnligrat at an altitude of 4003 m must not be used except for real emergency situations such as a sudden weather change on the descent. Donated by Ernest Solvay, a Belgian chemist and entrepreneur, the simple shelter on the exposed ridge was constructed more than a hundred years ago. The cabin’s narrow terrace is often used as a resting place by roped parties during the ascent of Matterhorn.
