Relatively avalanche-safe ski tour just outside the ski area. Ideal tour if travelling by public transport. Take the train to Fiesch, then change to the Fiesch-Eggishorn cable car. At Fiescheralp, change to the Talegga chairlift which brings you to 2,700 m and the start of this rewarding ski tour. Make a short traverse to the Tallengrat, descend (roughly 260 m) to Märjelenwang, then start a pleasant climb (approx. 950 m) to Senfspitze.
Route description
Talegga-Sessellift – Skidepot
From the top station of the Talegga chairlift (approx. 2720 m), make a high traverse northeast through the southeast flank of the Eggishorn to reach P. 2610 on the Tälligrat. Descend north-east down to Märjela, P. 2364 (watershed boundary). Climb gently on the slopes of the Märjelewang, then round into the valley of Galkina (approx. 2480 m). Ascend variable terrain up the centre of the broad valley, passing right of P. 2789 before veering NW towards the Strahlgrat until ca. 2960 m. Head back N to reach the minscule remnant glacier, and ascend this to gain the summit ridge. Leave the skis as high as the snow allows.
Skidepot – Skigipfel
A final few exposed metres along the ridge leads to a flattening beneath the stark summit needle.
Abfahrt
Take the same route back and ascend to the Tälligrat and the "Aletsch Arena" ski area. If there is not enough snow left in the ski area, the variant through the tunnel could be considered. The entrance of the roughly 1 km long tunnel, often buried in winter, is at the Gletscherstube (2347 m) on Märjela and leads under the Tälligrat to the slopes of the Fiescheralp. Follow the track southwest to regain the top station of the cable car.
