A varied hike to the Rotstockhütte
The first half of the hike leads along a small road, from Mürren to Spielbodenalp. From there, the path leads steeply up (>200 m altitude). Afterwards, a gentle hike with magnificent views leads you to the Rotstockhütte. A variant, from Spielbodenalp via the Wasenegg is a little less steep, but a bit longer. From the Spielbodenalp, it is also well worth making the 100 m descent southeast (direction "Sprutz") to see an impressive waterfall.
Route description
Mürren – Bryndli – Rotstockhütte
From Mürren you can reach Spilbodenalp via Gimmela on a slightly uphill road. Here you should make the worthwhile detour down to the Sprutz (30min). Now climb a a steep zigzag path up around to Bryndli. From there, a gentle hike with incredible views leads to the Rotstockhhütte on the Poganggenalp.
Variante: Mürren – Wasenegg – Rotstockhütte
Shortly before the Spielbodenalp continue straight up the valley beside the Schiltbach (stream) crossing two bridges on the way. Continue up Schilttal to P. 1948, cross the stream once more and southeast up to the Wasenegg (a grassy ridge at 2155 m). From here you must descend gradually 100 m down to P. 2051, where you join the main path from Bryndli.
This variant over the Wasenegg is a bit easier than the way over the Bryndli, but adds about 30 minutes to the journey.
