N-Ridge (Normal route) Rinderhorn 3449 m

- 4–4:30 h, 1400 m
The normal climb to the Rinderhorn is often undertaken, both in summer and in winter with skis. This route offers no major technical difficulties and the summit ice field has now virtually melted. Nevertheless, crampons and ice axe should definitely be carried. Walking on the steep snow and firn fields of the NW-flank requires safe crampon technique, also in ascent but especially in descent. Overall, a very rewarding, not too difficult high tour to a summit with a magnificent panoramic view of the Valais Alps.
Route description
Berghotel Schwarenbach - Daubensee P. 2229
From the Berghotel Schwarenbach (2060 m) follow the broad path towards the Gemmi Pass until shortly before the Daubensee (P. 2229 on the map).
Daubensee P. 2229 to the fore-summit (P. 3197)
At P. 2229 on the map, branch off the wide path to Gemmi and follow tracks eastward into the small valley between Chli Rinderhorn and Rinderhorn (some cairns. The tracks, passing approximately through the centre of the valley, gradually steepen, the closer you come to the Rindersattel. Just shy of the true saddle, follow the trail rightwards to join the ridge a little south of it (at around 2930 m). Now follow the ridge to fore summit P. 3197.
P. 3197 - Gipfel Rinderhorn
From here travel SW to join the large, 300m high NW flank. Climb up along its lefthand (northern) edge to reach the main summit. Towards the top bear left (west) and reach the highest point over a final, steep and sometimes icy snow slope.
