Via the North East Spur (from the Kesch hut) (Normal route) Piz d'Es-cha / Piz Kesch 3418 m

- Difficulty
- PD, 2c

- Ascent
- 3 h, 810 m

- Descent
- 40 m
The path from the hut to the start of the northeast spur is relatively easy. The glacier looks harmless, but has some crevasses. Roping up is therefore mandatory! The transition from the glacier to the northeast spur can be tricky if there is blank ice. The climbing is not too difficult (2a - 2c) and not so long (about 150 meters).
Route description
Kesch hut - Vadret da Porchabella (glacier)
From the hut a footpath leads south-soutwest to the lefthand (eastern) edge of the Vadret da Porchabella.
Vadret da Porchabella - Start of the Northeast Spur
Move up the Vadret da Porchabella in a large arc to the right (west) starting on the eastern edge of the glacier where there are the fewest crevasses, to the start of the northeast spur.
Start of the Northeast Spur - Piz Kesch
Through a couloir up onto a rubble strewn ledge, then shortly follow a rock ledge left into the east flank, before moving back right onto the ridge and following this to the summit (red markings, pitons).
Variant: Chamanna d'Es-cha - Vadret da Porchabella
From the Chamanna d'Es-cha follow a blue-white marked path up to the foot of the Porta d'Es-cha (pass), then steeply climb fixed chains up to the pass. Head west down onto the Vadret da Porchabella and cross over to the Northeast Spur to join the normal route.
Descent
Follow one of the routes of ascent (see variant).
