The ascent from Berghaus Oberaar to the Oberaarjochhütte consists of two contrasting sections. The initial part makes for relaxed hiking: a good mountain path lined with alpine flora along the Oberaarsee (lake). This is followed by attentive cramponing up the icy foot and later snow covered main body of the Oberaargletscher. It is strongly advised to rope up, at least where the ice is covered with snow, since depending on the season there will be many small crevasses to cross, and larger ones to navigate between. Together with an ascent of the Oberaarhorn, the ascent to the Oberaarjochhütte is an ideal tour for budding alpinists. The Berghaus Oberaar has no public transport connection and can be reached on one road (two-way one-way operation). The hut can be reached on foot from the post bus stop on the Grimsel Pass via the local mountain path network via Triebtenseewli in approx. 1½ hours.
