Mont Vélan 3722 m Ski tour
Mont Vélan is a glaciered summit on the Swiss-Italian border located above Bourg-St-Pierre in Val d’Entremont. It is a satellite of the nearby Grand Combin. The summit is an extended glacier dome. The south side consists mainly of rocky walls, except for the SSW side. On the N side the glaciers dominate in a spectacular way. The W side finally has a number of steep couloirs, which have been skied regularly these past years. However, only if you are familiar with alpine techniques and ski faultlessly. Wonderful view to the S face of Grand Combin and the Mont-Blanc range.
