Fastest and most convenient access route. This hut approach itself is regarded as an alpine tour, as it leads mostly without tracks, first across the Great Aletsch Glacier and then over the Mittelaletsch Glacier. In case you were wondering, glacier equipment is required.
Route description
Station Bettmerhorn - P. 2304
From the cable car station on the Bettmerhorn, head down the well-marked trail in the direction of Märjela to Roti Chumma (P. 2369). Now follow the lower trail in a southwesterly direction back to P. 2304.
P. 2304 - Mittelaletschbiwak
From P. 2304 descend SW over reddish glacial slabs (near Wysses Löub on the map) to reach the glacier. Cross the glacier more or less directly to its north western edge. Now curve away from the main glacier into the Mittelaletsch valley and follow the stream uphill. Continue on grass and scree on the northern (DIFFERENT TO THE MAP!!!) side of the stream, towards the Mittelaletsch glacier. The Mittelaletsch Glacier starts at about 2500 m, after climbing up and right of a steep rock step. Follow its central moraine until almost level with the hut. Now cross northeastwards on the flatter section straight towards it, and finally climb up slabs and scree for your hot cup of tea (if you brought one).
