We sat at the train station in Rougemont and waited for the train to Gstaad. We were a bit tired and very happy. We had made the climb through the west wall of the Rubli, slightly chilled from entering through the vertical waterfall chimney (both from the cold and fear), admired the view into the valley on a 'traverse of the gods' and tried to forget the exposure on the slightly overhanging 'exit cracks'. We could only agree with the note in the summit book of June 29, 2002: "Enfi n une via qui en vaut la peine à Rougemont. On aura plus honte! (la 3ème, face ouest). Bravo." This via ferrata set up by the mountain guide and Eiger north face expert Kobi Reichen in June 2002 rounds off the western wall of the Rubli's range of via ferrata, this Limestone pinnacle between Bernese Saanenland and Vaudois Pays d'Enhaut. Now the followers of this mountain sport have a choice. After the "iron ways" through the southeast flank and along the southwest ridge, they first wanted to create a via ferrata through the north side of the Rubli. But Reichen never would have agreed to one there, because thats where the ibex live. On the west wall he saw no problem, although he also occasionally saw these extraordinary animals there: "Unbelievable what they do." Even Kobi Reichen had to be astonished.

On Rubli above Rougemont and Saanen - the Saanenländ folk call this ragged summit Rüeblihorn or just Rüebli - there are three "iron ways"; they are called Via ferrata de la Videmanette, but also Via ferrata de Rougemont or even Via ferrata du Rubli.
Via ferrata 1: secured path for hikers through the south-east flank of the Rubli, K1, 160 m difference in altitude, also serves as a descent route.
