The pleasurable ascent goes through the secluded Mäderenwald. The tour is a beautiful traverse, which, due to the low elevation and the exposure, can only be undertaken in its entirety on a few winter days with fresh snow. The Haggen pastures, however, require only a few centimetres of snow. If you can continue right down to the Schwyz railway station, you get 1000 m of descent, while the ascent is only 600 m.
Route description
Biberegg (Rothenthurm) – Hochstuckli
From the Biberegg railway station (931 m) walk across the road and the railway lines. Ascend south-westward past the Loreto Chapel to Bärenboden and the former ski lift bottom station. Continue in open pastures (former ski runs) southward to P. 1153 via Geissgütsch. Traverse Mäderenwald on the forest road. Shortly before the hairpin bend ascend south-westward on the summer trail through the forest to reach Banegg (1439 m) via P. 1275. Follow the Hochstuckli north ridge, at the end fairly steeply, to the highest point.
Hochstuckli – Schwyz (railway station)
From the summit ski down southward in the Uzenberg pastures past the farm house at Mettli (811 m) to reach P. 717. If there is sufficient snow, you can continue to descend in pastures and meadows directly to the Schwyz railway station (455 m).
