The heavily glaciated high mountain landscape, with the great bulks of Susten - and Gwächtenhorn, is impressive to all who journey over the pass. From the main road at Steingletscher the Gwächtenhorn in particular dominates the scenery. The normal route to this mountain leads from the Tierbergli hut in a wide arc via the Sustenlimi. From here, the climb tackles the moderately steep slopes of the east flank directly to reach the gentle snowy peak of the Gwächtenhorn. The tour is an ideal starter tour, as it presents no major difficulties. However it is a glacier - there are crevasses; so good rope handling and route selection is important. The view on top is grandiose and a good reward for your efforts.
