Gross Bigerhorn 3625 m Alpinism
Gross Bigerhorn (at St. Niklaus also called Balfrinrothorn) is considered the local mountain of Bordierhütte. It is a rock mountain whose NE side is covered by an arm of Balfringletscher. On the W side of Gross Bigerhorn is Klein Bigerhorn. Between them there are small remains of a glacier called Bigergletscher. The panoramic view from the summit with its magnificent cross is very impressive. Gross Bigerhorn is attractive, as it is the highest summit reachable by hikers on a signposted trail (no climbing required). Often its ascent is combined with Balfrin.
