The shortest ascent to Alvier and its cabin is steep, but thanks to the easy passage at Chemmi it is negotiable even for average mountain hikers. If you ride the Palfris aerial cableway, you save a considerable amount of metres of vertical height. So, hiking up to Alvier and having a nibble at the cabin makes a perfect one-day tour.
Route description
Palfris summit station - Chemmi - Alvier
From the summit station of the aerial cableway follow the narrow road to Berghaus Palfris. The marked mountain hiking trail ascends initially in pastures, then zigzags on the steep face to reach Chemmi. Pass the chimney and continue on the other side overcoming an exposed, but well-equipped escarpment to reach the flat summit of Alvier and the cabin a few metres below the highest point.
