Along the water to the Geltenhütte.

The normal approach to the Geltenhütte always follows the water - in order to savour the journey, a start at the tranquil Lauenen is always worthwhile. From there, you must first pass the "Rohr"; damp flower filled meadows, then cross the floodplain and young forest of the Louwibach. After short steeper section you will reach the Lauenensee - chance for a bath and a bite to eat. After that, the well built mountain path always traces the water's edge, until it surprisingly evades the impressive "Gälteschutz" waterfall. Now it is not far to the Geltenhütte, where further water wonders are to be discovered.

Route description

Lauenen - Louwenesee - P. 1386

From the bus stop in Lauenen (1241 m), follow the road to the Rohrbrücke. Cross the centre of the moorland of Rohr to the west side of the valley, then along a clearing and into the floodplain forest to P. 1260 near Rohröy. Here the path rises steeply to Louwenesee at P. 1382, from where you briefly follow the road to the outlet of the Gältebach (P. 1385).

P. 1386 - Gälteschutz - Geltenhütte

From P. 1386 follow the mountain path via Walki to the plain at Undere Feisseberg. From beneath the Gälteschutz (waterfall) climb steeply west via the zigzag path, then turn east through a small cliff on a rock ramp. The path now divides. The righthand branch (west of the Gältebach) which then also crosses the stream at P. 1928, is a little faster. Soon after the paths reunite you'll find the Geltenhütte on a slight rise.

Variant: via Chüetungel - Gältetrittli

Instead of following the valley floor, from the outlet of the Gältebach stream is is possible to hike eastwards to Chüetungel before traversing the west-facing slopes of Follhore and Hahneschritthore to reach the hut. And steep step on the exposed Gältetrittli is diffused with a fixed ladder.
