A very popular tour, especially in early winter, when the snow conditions in the high Alps are not yet favourable. The itinerary is through a fantastic landscape, winds its way up through a forest with majestic larch trees and goes past rustic chalets.
Route description
Fäld – Gandhorn
From Fäld (parking, 1519 m) follow the road to the Binntal alps or take the short-cuts of the summer path to a small chalet ca. 200 m beyond Heiwmeder. Now leave the road and ascend to the left northward to reach a terracce at ca. 1850 m. Continue northward through the sparse forest to the hairpin bend at P. 1975. On the hardly prominent wide knoll go past P. 2067 to the beginning of the SW slopes of Gandhorn, which present rocky and steep passages. Negotiate a short steep passage (caution in unfavourable conditions) to reach the wide summit ridge. Follow it eastward, bypass the secondary summit on the left, and past two old army barracks ascend to the summit.
