Föisc is a classic ski tour in this area, especially after heavy snowfall, as the snow remains powdery for a long time. It is an easy tour for beginners. The first part of the ascent is on a road groomed by snowmobiles. The middle part is on a ridge in the middle of a fir and larch forest. And on the last stretch one has a splendid view to upper Leventina. The summit with a hut and a large wooden cross offers a fascinating view to the lakes of the Piora region.
Route description
Brugnasco – Föisc
From a stable with a silo at Brugnasco (1380 m), follow the narrow road leading to Rütan (1615 m) via Campoi (1448 m) and Morinàl (1516 m). From Rütan follow the forest road, which is normally groomed by snowmobiles, for ca 200 m until the last huts. Now branch off right (E) to ascend the slopes above the huts. You enter a forest, and on a ridge ascend to the Motti clearing. Now follow a distinctly narrower stretch of the ridge (1913 m) to reach the remote hut at Pian Töi (1891 m). Now ascend directly to Piatto dei Larici; the steep passage (33°) can be precarious if the snow conditions are unfavourable. Then ascend through the increasingly sparse forest on the ridge towards the hut and the summit.
Variant: Madrano - Rütan
From Madrano (1156 m) ascend the slopes above the village until the first bend of the road to Brugnasco. Close to some huts (1242 m) leave the road to continue on a forest road which is not groomed in winter, to reach Vadré. From here ascend the ridge, which leads the way through the forest above Vadré and up to the summit. Some passages are steep and difficult to ascend. Exiting the forest, you reach the huts at Rütan (1615 m).
