First built, incredibly as a tourist attraction, by hotelier Christian Meiler-Brun in 1907 through the 500 m high south face of the Flimserstein. The climb lead through a natural tunnel, which provided the perfect place to hang a door, the key for which could be hired from the hotel, until a hunter blasted a hole through it (which can still be seen today). As well as the natural attraction of white hares and marmots, Christian Meiler-Brun had also planted a larch forest atop the cliffs. With the outbreak of the First World War, the hotel business practically came to a standstill, while the ferrata never lost in popularity. Later, in 1949, the tourist office praised this "ascent through natural rock tunnels and over iron ladders" as an "incomparable experience". In recent times, the people of Flims honoured this cultural monument; since the summer of 2007, the renovated via ferrata has been available for people (who do not suffer from vertigo) to enjoy and marvel at.

Route description

Approach
Pinut Via Ferrata
The start 'kicks off' with multiple iron ladders leading up through the vertical rock. After a solidly anchored, but very exposed bridge, one turns into an apparently bricked up corner; On the left, a freestanding tower reaches into the sky. Ladders facilitate exit from the lower grotto and bring you to the entrance of a 20 metre long, natural tunnel. Watch out for the booby trap: there's a big hole in the floor, which is covered by a lying ladder, and offers a vertiginous downwards view. Through the (now permanently open) historic door you'll arrive back in the daylight; a ledge leads to the next series of ladders, which will bring you to the sparsely forested Pinutwiese (hanging meadows). A zigzag path brings you to a second cliff band and continuation of the ferrata (more cables and ladders), which in turn leads to the next grassy slope, known as Pardatsch. Finally a third, shorter cliff band is overcome, and the wide pastures of the Flimsersteins is won.
