A popular high alpine ski tour with the optional, added attraction of two 4000ers: the Grosse- and Hintere Fiescherhorn.
Route description
Jungfraujoch – Oberes Mönchsjoch – Fischersattel
From the Jungfraujoch tunnel exit (3464 m), follow the (usually) pisted track north-east to the Upper Mönchsjoch (3623 m). Descend across the Ewigschneefäld south-east to the base of the glacier ramp (approx. 3260 m) which leads up to the Fieschersattel. Ascend the southeast edge of the ramp then bear north under the Hinteres- Fiescherhorn to the base of the final slope leading up to the saddle (ca. 3800).
Ascent to Fieschersattel
A final, steep bootpack up the 120 m high slope leads up to the saddle. Watch out for the bergschrund: best to be sure you have crossed it before taking off the skis.
Fieschersattel – Crevasse zone
For the descent of the Fiescherfirn, keep to skier's (and orographic) left, passing near under the Fiescherjoch: you should be on the NE edge of the glacier.
Crevasse Zone.
Between ca. 3500 and 3200 m beware the serac zone above and left: ice fall risk!
Crevasse zone - Finsteraarhornhütte
If the snow is not yet too hot, glide effortessly along the gentle sloping glacier plateau to the Finsteraarhornhütte, which is usually gained via the couloir on its left.

- Remarks
-
The short bootpack to gain the saddle is unproblematic in the case of good firn snow. Danger of icefall from a serac zone beneath the Fieschergrat on the last bit of descent to the Fiescherfirn's main body.
