- 2:30–3 h, 1050 m
The normal hut approach follows a good hiking path through some genuine alpine forest and steep meadows to the Fergenhütte. If you have enough time, you can also start from Klosters Platz, which adds a nice warm up hike beside the young Lanquart river along the valley floor.
Route description
Monbiel (parking) - Fergenhütte
From Monbiel (car park) follow the road into the valley to P.1331. Turn left to reach Schwendi by a good road, then left again across the Alpboden and into the Pardenner Wald (forest). A few long zigzags lead through the beautiful forest to above the tree line, where the path leads steeply up to P. 1866, before climbing diagonally east across the slope to reach the hut.
Variant: approach from Klosters Platz
Follow the flat path beside the young Landquart river and cross the bridge at Chüenischboden P. 1273, to meet the main route from Monbiel.
Variant via Pardenn and Garfiun
You can also follow the footpath for Garfiun - Obersäss, a little further into the valley. Halfway between Pardenn and Garfiun, turn left and climb past P. 1426 and Soppen into the Spärrer Wald (forest). The path leads out of the trees, also over steep alpine meadows via Obersäss and N to the hut. (Half an hour longer than the direct approach, same difficulty.)
