Starting at Elm, this is a very popular ski tour dominated by impressive scenery on the other side of the valley. As the terrain is mostly grassy, the tour can be undertaken early in the season, when there is little snow. There are some variants for the last stretch to the summit. The slopes in the lower part with their exposure to the south are quickly snow-free. In this case take the narrow road leading to Gamperduner Stäfeli.
Route description
Elm – Fanenstock
From the Elm Station (ca. 960 m) bus stop, follow the road south-eastward to the parking lot of the Tschinglen aerial cableway at Töniberg (1037 m; not in operation in winter). On the summer hiking trail go north to reach the road. Follow the road to a bend and go east to P. 1173. Now ascend north in pastures via Raminer Stäfeli and P. 1313 to the alp access road leading eastward to P. 1426. On the hiking trail ascend northward through Camperdunerwald to reach P. 1565. Continue across Schindelegg to Mittelstafel (1772 m). Ascend north-north-eastward to Fanenfurggeli (2143 m) to reach the summit following the ridge.
Descent
On the ascent; from P. 1426, however, it is more rewarding to follow the road westward to reach P. 1278. From there you can ski south and south-westward to Töniberg via Chnollen.
