Hiking on Enderlin's lifework
Enderlinhütte and the fantastic trail up the precipitous Falknis south face are the lifework of Fortunat Enderlin (1824–1918). The so-called Enderlin trail begins at the picturesque village of Maienfeld, ascends in the vineyards and past mighty oak trees and crosses a wild gorge to reach Enderlinhütte through a steep mountain forest. Then it traverses the exposed grassy slope below Falknistürm in a spectacular way and continues to Fläscher Fürggli. From there the summit is still 300 metres of vertical height away – easy, but physically very demanding! Falknis is too long for a one-day hike so it is recommended to spend the night at Enderlinhütte. The descent to Älplibahn is the shortest way back from Falknis, despite several re-ascents.

- Difficulty / Material

Even with excellent gear and despite the white-blue markings the Enderlin trail is a demanding ascent which is not recommended in wet conditions. The most exposed passages are equipped with steel cables, but the stretches on slippery ground and rocky slabs require perfect surefootedness. The tour should not be undertaken too early or too late in the year, as even the smallest patch of snow can make the trail dangerous!
