In summer a rarely visited mountain with excellent views of the Schreckhorn massif. Today the usual route from the Gaulihütte follows first the way to the Gauligletscher (like the route to the Ränfenhorn). Access from lower in the valley is hardly possible anymore due to the glacier retreat. After traversing the Gauligletscher you will reach the Grüenbärgli.
Route description
Gaulihütte - Gauligletscher approx. 2530 m
From the Gaulihütte (2205 m) follow the Chammliegg path until it turns south east at about 2300 m - now continue onwards (south-west) ascending a broad gully, then to the west over grassy knolls on faint tracks to a terrace around 2600 m; 1½ hours. Cross the terrace first west, then turn slightly left to descend a bit, past P. 2589 and onto to the flat sweep of the Gauligletscher (until here white-blue-white marked).
Gaulihütte - The ridge north of Gaulipass 3189 m -
Now cross the glacier, arc west above the crevasse zone, then bear steadily south to mount the rocks of the Grienbärgli below P. 2686. Climb up a rocky channel to P. 2686 and pass over to the south side of the Grienbärgligrats (ridge) until you can meet the Grienbärgli glacier at about 2900 m. Continue south to the rocks north of the Gauli Pass.
The ridge north of Gaulipass 3189 m - Ewigschneehorn
Round the rocks north of the Gaulipasses 3189m and continue over snow and screes onto the SE ridge. Follow the ridge, over big blocks of gneiss to the summit.
