Thanks to the lifts, which can deliver you to Gandegg or even the top of the Hockenhorngrat, this tour offers a way into the 'high mountains' which requires very little effort. Since descending the same way is somewhat tedious because of the traversing, it is recommended to descend from Elwertätsch via Im Tellin (ski conditions and skills depending). Alternatively, you can take the route south via Fischbiel down to Wiler.
Route description
Hockenhorngrat - Elwertätsch
From the top station of the Gandegg - Hockenhorn cableway (3085 m), descend the "black" Petersgrat slope over the steep Milibach glacier, then traverse eastwards to beneath the rock spur from P. 2919 and into to the bowl south of the Märbiglücke. Don skins at approx. 2720 m and head north-east to a steep (36 degrees at 50 m) SW-facing slope which leads to a saddle north of P. 2910. Continue north-east beneath the Sackhorn and cross the Tennbachgletscher to gain the Tennbachlücke (saddle, 3091 m). Ascend the broad west ridge to the summit of Elwertätsch.
Variant from Gandegg
Alternatively, from the middle station at Gandegg, make a long downward traverse towards the Stieltihorn to about 2620 m, before swapping to skins and ascending directly towards Sackhorn, beneath which you'll join the main track.
