Challenging path to the eagle's nest at 2663 m
The Dossen hut stands on the narrow ridge between Gstellihorn and Dossenhorn. Far from the hustle and bustle of more acclaimed huts, the hike to the Dossenhütte offers an alternative and individual tour. By the glacial canyon above Rosenlaui the marked path begins. The route requires sure-footedness and is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo! In bad weather, heavy rains or thunderstorms, it is not recommended.
Route description
Rosenlaui to the Rosenlouwischlucht (canyon)
From the large car park above the Rosenlauihotel (Postauto/ bus stop on the road to Schwarzwaldalp) follow the wide path west of the Rosenlaui canyon southwards to the bridge at P. 1487 m. Cross the bridge and head in an easterly direction up through sparse forest to pass behind the Gletscherhubel (1759 m). At the T-junction, a left turn will take you to the Engelhornhütte, to the right: the Dossenhütte.
Rosenlouwischlucht, past the Rosenlauwibiwak to the Dossenhütte
Continue in a southerly direction to the foot of the large lateral moraine and then climb up leftwards to reach the moraine ridge. Follow this to its upper end. Continue onto the eastern slope of a wide couloir over limestone slabs, making use of artificial steps and metal railings. In the upper right part of the Couloir a ladder helps you past a larger step, before the path takes you up and left onto a scree terrace. From there move on towards the foot of the Dossenwand (site of the Rosenlauibiwak); 3 hrs. Continue to the left (east) and up a rock ledge on a narrow zigzag path. This takes you onto to the Dossengrat, which is followed, with the occasional evasive manoeuvre, to the hut.
