The normal route to the Doldenhorn hut follows a good, varied mountain path from Kandersteg. Depending on the season, a rich and unique flora can be admired. The variant above Dürreschwand offers and alternative ascent/ descent option.
Route description
Kandersteg - Öschibach - Undere Biberg
Currently closed due to landslide risk.
From Kandersteg train station (1176 m), follow the small road south of the Oeschibach towards Oeschinensee until the official start of the hut path in Oeschiwald (signpost). Climb first steeply through the forest, then cross beneath a crumbling overhang on perma-wet rock up to P. 1468. Now follow the path W, ascending a little to the Undere Biberg, where you'll cross the bridge and meet the path from Dürreschwand.
Undere Biberg - Doldenhornhütte
From Undere Biberg, climb steeply through the forest to Obere Biberg and from there move northeast over more gentle terrain to the hut.
Variant: via Holzfad / Dürreschwand
From Kandersteg train station (1176 m), first follow the road east of the tracks to Hinder de Büele, then turn southeast to the Waldhotel Doldenhorn; this is where the mountain path begins. Climb first steeply through the forest up to Dürreschwand; later traverse over flat terrain to reach Undere Biberg. About 15 minutes longer than the main route.
