Doldenhorn 3638 m Alpinism
This mountain has two very different sides. Observed from the north, it appears as the beautiful snow covered peak, easily accessible via the normal route from the Doldenhornhütte. (The classic routes; the Galletgrat and the North Face require good firn/snow conditions. In particular, the north wall is usually only feasible for a short time in early summer. Technically much more demanding is the east ridge, which is rarely climbed)
To the south, the looming, furrowed and brittle rock walls fall down from the summit into Gasteretal. On the south-east wall in 2008, following the best of the bad rock, the very demanding route "Doldorphin" was opened. Other, older routes in the south wall are not recommended due of rockfall danger.
