After the fairly flat Val Piumogna the route goes through marvellous fir forests, where in fresh snow you try to find the best way. Indeed, even after a snowfall the tour can be undertaken. However, caution is advised on the last stretch. Ascending Val Piumogna is also necessary if you want to climb the more challenging summits of the region, Pizzo Forno and Pizzo Campo Tencia. The itinerary is in a secluded area and therefore rarely undertaken. Chances are that you will be by yourself.
Route description
Dalpe – ski depot
From the large parking lot at the southern end of Dalpe (1192 m; the bus stop is at the northern end of the village) ascend in pastures, then on the summer trail through the forest to reach a road used by snowmobiles near a chapel. Follow the road to the bridge at Polpiano (1365 m) and the hamlet of Piumogna (1399 m). Leave the road at the last house to take the summer trail, which ascends in pastures, then through the forest, past the water reservoir and P. 1554 to reach the small bridge at 1650 m. Do not cross the creek but continue at the edge of the alp and through the beautiful forest to Cascina Nuova (1913 m), making an arc to the right. Continue northward to Pian Grande (2034 m). Traverse the plain northward to reach the ridge towards the E summit of Cima del Lambro (2224 m), where you usually leave the skis. Depending on the conditions, the last few metres on a snow-covered ridge are negotiated on foot.
Ski depot - Cima del Lambro
From the ski depot continue westward on the snow-covered ridge to reach the summit. If you have perfect conditions, you can reach the summit on skis.
