This is the easiest ski tour in Kiental. It goes to a small knoll surrounded by high mountains, but it offers an astonishing view, nevertheless. The avalanche risk is fairly low. Chistihubel is also popular among snowshoe hikers. The itinerary is within the Kiental no-hunting area, so please do not stray off the described route (see the remark regarding the alternative descent!).

Route description

Tschingel - Griesalp - Chistihubel

From the parking lot at Tschingel (ca. 1160 m) follow the steep road up to Griesalp (1408 m). Pass the hotel and take the summer trail through the forest to reach the Dündenessli clearing. In the clearing ascend south-westward to the hairpin bend at P. 1533. Follow the forest road for a short while, then take the summer trail again to reach Dünde Mittelberg (1725 m). Now ascend south-westward in a small valley to reach the bridge across the Dündebach (1873 m). Now follow the alp access road to the Dünde depression and continue to the Obere Dünden alp (1975 m). Gradually turning westward, ascend the gentle slopes interspersed with boulders to reach the stable at P. 2096. Making an arc northward, ascend more steeply to the summit.

Descent

On the ascent, except in the forest above Griesalp: it is preferable to traverse the forest on the road. Please note: the Grüenematti depression, leading directly down to Dünde Mittelberg, was an alternative descent described in earlier editions of the SAC ski touring guide. However, it is the habitat of snow-grouse. So please do not enter the area! Disregarding this game reserve may cause the authorities to disallow other ski routes in the Kiental no-hunting area that are still open today!
