Route description
Göschenen - Abfrutt
From Göschenen train station (1107 m) follow the Gotthardstrasse into the village then continue straight past the power station and into Göschenertal. At Bitzi cross to the N side of the stream and continue to Abfrutt (1168 m).
Abfrutt - cairn ca. 2043 m
At Horwen, cross back south of the stream and follow the old mountain path up to the footbridge at Lochstafel (1532 m). Cross the bridge and continue past Gwüest following the road to Berggasthaus Dammagletscher (1782 m; closed in winter). You can cut one corner between P. 1616 and P.1663. From Berggasthaus Dammagletscher, climb up to flatter terrain "Auf dem Berg" (P. 1950) then head due W, gradually down towards the NW corner of the Göschenenalpsee (P. 1805). From here, follow the valley NW to the cairn ca. 2043 m.
Cairn ca. 2043 m - Chelenalphütte
Climb the steep hut approach path on foot up through the cliffs; for the last 150 m altitude you can put the skis on again.
