The ascent to the Chammanna da Tschierva begins as a long, flat hike through Val Roseg. The entire Val Roseg has been declared a "quiet zone" (no automobiles) by the territorial communities of Pontresina and Samedan. The first section up to the Hotel Roseg can be shortened easily by horse-drawn carriage! The path then climbs to the old lateral moraine of the Vadret da Tschierva and on to the hut.
Route description
Pontresina - Bridge before Hotel Rosegg
From Pontresina train station (1773 m), cross the river then turn right and follow the well-marked footpath across Russellas into the valley. This leads through beautiful larch and stone pine forests on the E-bank and later (at 1943 m) joins the mountain road which leads to the bridge just before the Hotel Rosegg.
Bridge before Hotel Rosegg - Chamanna da Tschierva SAC
At the bridge just before Hotel Rosegg (1999 m), continue along the eastern bank, following the old mule track up to Alp Misaun (2014 m), then through sparse forest up to Margun. In the summer of 1971, the bridge between the Roseg restaurant and Alp Misaun, which was destroyed in the 1950s, was rebuilt so that carriage drivers could again reach the Alp directly from the restaurant. From Margun, the path leads SE across the Tschierva slopes to moraine valley, then finallay along the moraine itself and left to the hut.
