The approach to Chamanna da Boval is a true panoramic experience; vast frozen seas flowing down from Palü, Bernina and Co. form the backdrop all the way. After the Morteratsch station, the easy mule path winds briefly through some Swiss stone-pine forest and over glacier polished slabs, then along the side moraine of the Vadret da Morteratsch. Whereas you might have hiked high above the glacier for most of the last millennium, today the glacier's snout is only reached after about two thirds of the way.
Route description
Morteratsch - Chamanna Boval CAS
From Morteratsch train station (1896 m), follow the well-marked path to Chünetta then further along the western lateral moraine of the Morteratsch glacier. From the end of the moraine, climb some well-secured rock steps and follow a wide ledge to a final short slope which leads up right to the hut.
