The normal approach to Capanna Motterascio is a popular route for the hike over Plaun la Greina. It first leads along the Lago di Luzzone to Alp Garzott in the Valle di Garzora, then steeply up – with a short breather at Trachee – to the Capanna Motterascio.
Route description
Luzzone dam - Valle di Garzora - Cap. Motterascio
A mountain road crosses the dam then follows the south bank of the reservoir to Alpe Garzott, where the marked hut trail begins. Its first section, through the steep cleft at the back of the reservoir, is dangerous during heavy rain and often impassable in winter. A bridge crosses the stream of Valle di Garzora, then the path rises steeply up the s-facing slopes to the terraces of Trachee and Motterascio.
