The Capanna Cristallina is not only the largest and one of the highest in Ticino, but also a classic winter ski tour destination. From this hut many ascents and several crossings into the surrounding valleys are possible.
Route description
Ossasco - Capanna Cristallina SAC
From Ossasco (1313 m) climb southwards through the forest on a summer path which crosses a small road just above P. 1538. Stick to the west side of the Ri di Cristallina (stream) and, passing P. 1675, reach the Alpe di Cristallina at 1800 m. From the Alp continue along the west side of Val Torta, making a long traverse through NE-exposed slopes, until you reach P. 2150 and P. 2152. Warning: in unfavourable conditions it is safer to traverse the east side of the valley! Follow the valley to Mottone and the old hut footprint (ca. 2350 m), and on up to the Passo Cristallina, where the new hut was built.
