A saunter through Val Torta
From the small village of Ossasco, a path leads through steep forest up to the lower pastures of the Alpe di Cristallina, where the Val Torta begins. Follow the valley, overcome a short steep step and reach a plateau with several streams, bogs and wetlands. The Passo di Cristallina (pass) soon appears on the horizon. Passing the location of the old hut (which was swept away by a huge avalanche in 1999), climb up to the pass, where the view of the upper Val Bavona and Basodino suddenly opens up.
Route description
Ossasco – Capanna Cristallina
From Ossasco follow a marked path up through the steep forest to approx. 1550 m. There you come across an alpine road that leads in wide loops to the buildings of the Alpe di Cristallina. The hiking trail does not follow the road, but crosses it a few times and then leads directly to the alp. Head south along the righthand (west) side of the Ri di Cristallina (stream) to a steeper step at around 2100 m; after this turn the corner into the broad, upper Val Torta. Follow this SW past P. 2214, over undulating terrain to the remains of the old hut. Climb up under the eastern rocks of Pizzo Gararesc, then around and up to Passo di Cristallina. The hut is just to the right, slightly higher than the pass.
