Past a beautiful lake
This access trail leads us from Valle di Vergeletto, a side valley of Valle Onsernone, via several steps in the terrain and through secluded landscapes to Bocchetta di Doia with its splendid view. From there in a flash we reach Lago d'Alzasca, known for its beauty and an ideal swimming spot. From there you reach the cabin in about 20 minutes.
Route description
Vergeletto – Bocchetta di Doia – Capanna d'Alzasca
From Vergeletto follow the road about 15 minutes and branch off to the right at P. 912. Still on a road continue to the hamlet Camana. Now hike further into the valley, only gently ascending, to Fümegn (1338 m). Now the trail gets considerably steeper to reach Bocchetta di Doia (2054 m) via Alpe di Doia. Now descend through a shady depression (snow in early summer) to a small saddle and Lago d'Alzasxa. At the end cross the creek flowing off the lake (Ri d'Alzasca) and hike down northward to the cabin.
Variant: Gresso – Bocchetta di Doia
Instead of starting from Vergeletto you can reach Bocchetta di Doia (and Capanna d'Alzasca) also from Gresso. Begin at the bus station in the centre of the village and hike up the village and via Coleta to Monte. Here turn left and continue in a mostly forested face to the pastures of Alpe del Ròdan. In open terrain hike north-westward to the ridge below Cramalina and almost horizontally to Bocchetta di Doia. About the same hiking time.
