Four entertaining hours
The access of Capanna d’Alzasca from Someo is very multifaceted. At first we cross the riverbed of the Maggia, considered the most untamed of the big rivers in Switzerland. Then we traverse above a beautiful waterfall into the narrow Valle del Soladino and ascend on a steep trail with countless steps through a shady forest. Past several mountain pasture huts the trail gains height, not as steeply as before, and leads upstream, mostly through forests, to the cabin.
Route description
Someo – Capanna d'Alzasca
From the bus stop at Someo hike on a marked trail through the forest towards the Maggia and slightly to the right to the beginning of a bridge. The almost 400 metres long suspension bridge spans the Maggia and its wide riverbed only a few metres above the water. On the south bank of the Maggia turn right, and after ascending for a while you reach the stone arch bridge over the Ri d'Alzasca at P. 564. Continue rather steeply to Monte Faéd di Fuori and via Corte di Sotto to Corte di Mezzo (Rotonda). Now hike mostly through dense forest to Corte di Fondo (1545 m) and upstream to the cabin.
