This route begins in the village of Zinal in Val d’Anniviers. The ascent to the cabin is a ski tour by its own right. At first an alluvial plain, then a sharp turn to ascend the pastures of Arpitetta and then the finale: a long, consistently steep SW slope leading up to Col de Tracuit and the cabin.
Route description
Zinal - cabin
From the village of Zinal (ca. 1670 m) go across the bridge (1674 m) and follow the valley, to the left of the Navisence, until the end of the plain. Now take the summer trail via Le Vichiesso (1855 m). At the bifurcation of the two valleys cross the bridge at P. 1903. Now ascend northward in the pastures of Arpitetta and Tsijière de la Vatse to reach a small col south-east of Roc de la Vache (2581 m). Here the cabin is visible. Descend from the pass to the plain of the Torrent du Barmé, where you cross the creek. Ascend the pastures of Tracuit north-eastward, aiming at P. 2890 on the SW ridge of Diablon des Dames. Continue on the wide ledge until below Col de Tracuit (3227 m). Ascend a steep slope which ends immediately below the col. Then, with a few steps you reach the ridge where the cabin stands. There is a chain for assistance.
