In the ski season, the summer approach to the Saleinaz hut from Praz de Fort is very difficult as it's located on very steep and rough north facing slopes with a high risk of avalanches. Nevertheless, a visit to the hut is worthwhile because there are magnificent ski mountains in the area.
Route description
Cabane de Trient – Fenêtre de Saleinaz
From the Trient hut head across the Glacier du Trient in a SW direction, past the beautiful Aiguilles Dorees, to the Fenêtre de Saleina (3261 m).
Fenêtre de Saleinaz
To cross the Fenêtre de Saleina, you may have to strap your skis on your backpack.
Glacier de Saleina – Cab. de Saleina
Descend the Glacier du Saleinaz, keeping to its lefthand side, passing P. 2946 to your right and hence avoiding the main crevasse fields. Continue eastwards, and eventually reach the glacier's righthand bank, before climbing gently up to the Cabane de Saleinaz.
From Cabane de Trient via Col S des Plines
From the Trient head south over Col d'Orny, and follow the slight glacial rise to the W of Roc des Plines to the col (approx. 3260 m). From the pass, descend the Glacier des Plines and pass the Bivouac de l'Envers des Dorées on your left. Continue south-west to join the Glacier de Saleinaz, and the route (described above) from the Fenêtre de la Saleinaz.
