As the cableways reach high up, the mountain is very accessible, which attracts many inexperienced ski tourists. A sudden weather change can turn the seemingly harmless Breithorn plateau into an icy, storm-battered, dangerous landscape. Thus, good orientation skills are required. The slope below the summit and the ridge are often icy. I
Route description
Klein Matterhorn – Breithorn
From the summit station of the Klein Matterhorn (3882 m) cableway follow the ski lift southward until the wooden hut at P. 3793. From here ascend eastward on the Breithorn plateau towards P. 3824, turning gradually N to reach the foot of the summit slope. Ascend this slope and traverse westward past the foot of a rocky outcrop. End the ascent in an arc to the east to reach the summit.
