Route description
Gasenried - cabin
From the bus stop of Gasenried (ca. 1650 m) take the road through the village, below the aqueduct, as far as the chapel (1683 m) at Schalbettu in the Riedbach valley. Now on a forest road go from Schalbettu to the upper aqueduct. Ascend on the summer trail past P. 1930 to Grefzug, then continue in the same direction to cross the Riedbach valley further up and get back on the summer trail at P. 2055. Now ascend to Alpja (2099 m). From here go along the moraine of Riedgletscher towards P. 2406 and P. 2707. From here Riedgletscher can easily be traversed eastward via a terrace (ca. 2760 m). On the other side of the glacier ascend the steep slope to the right of the summer trail. Continue in less steep terrain keeping left towards the cabin or later in the spring on the path equipped with safety equipment. The cabin is visible from afar.
