Bonistock (Melchsee-Frutt) 2168 m Alpine climbing
The largest and most popular sport climbing crag in Central Switzerland has around 200 well-equipped rope lengths in the lower to middle difficulty range. This kilometre-long, sunny rock band, suitable for climbing all year round can be reached in a few minutes' walk from the cable car station or car park. Children friendly Sector A is the closest one, no doubt contributing to its popularity as well as its sizeable collection of easy routes.
Also in the subsequent sectors B-E, there are always simpler (for children and beginners) routes between the more difficult climbs, the majority of which are in the sixth degree (french sport grade). Only the two sectors F and G at the very eastern end of the ledge are reserved for advanced climbers.
With the exception of the flat, sloping beginner zones, the cliff is dominated by steep, athletic climbing on horizontally layered, varied limestone. All routes are well bolted and their names are marked (with a few exceptions) at the base.
