The classic ascent is from Robièi and Capanna Basòdino SAC. It is a fairly easy tour, which is, however, affected by the shrinking of the glacier. Besides this route, there are a number of alternative itineraries. The access to the cabin is fairly complicated in winter. It is best to access it from Val Bedretto. Or one can wait for the aerial cableway to open in June, if there is still sufficient snow.

Route description

Capanna Basòdino – ski depot

From Capanna Basòdino (1856 m) in a valley with a creek follow the road westward to the summit station of the Robièi aerial cableway. Ascend on the right bank of the creek. After a first steep stretch the ascent flattens. You reach the cabins of Randinascia (2156 m). Now continue south-westward to reach Ghiacciaio del Basòdino, which you ascend until the foot of the summit structure. After negotiating a last east- and north-east-facing slope, leave the skis at a breach (ca. 3170 m) in the east ridge.

Ski depot – Basòdino summit

From the ski depot initially ascend a steep slope, then easy rocky passages to reach the summit. This is the easiest and most popular route. You can also reach the summit on the north-west ridge: leave the skis at the foot of the ridge and follow it by climbing the blocks (exposed).

Descent

On the ascent
