Via Egg, but not just around the corner
Badus is said to mean steep, reclining. But the same mountain has a second name, Six Madun. Six is a rock head, Madun (Madone) is a pillar or a column. Correspondingly the access via Six Madun Egg is a steep, inclined ramp with a rocky head.
Route description
Nätschen – Alp Rossboden
From the Nätschen (1842 m) railway station take the trail running parallel to the road to Schöni, then walk on the dirt road through Riederen. At P. 1867 a trail branches off to make alp Rossboden (1943 m) accessible. Hike as far as the upper building.
Alp Rossboden – Badus / Six Madun
From the upper building of Alp Rossboden at the end of the road hike pathless in the pastures to the ruins of Unter Stafel. Slightly ascending go south-eastward to the shoulder at P. 2189. Continue on a fairly well visible path below Älpetliegg to a scree terrace on the wide Rossbodenälpetli. From here there is a path traversing to Six Madun Egg, a distinct grassy rib, which you reach at about 2430 m (there is another trail at around 2500 m). Now ascend directly on an almost continuous path through the rather steep, but hardly exposed Six Madun Egg, mostly on grass, sometimes on a stretch of schrofen. The itinerary is completely logical and cannot be missed. On the uppermost segment the rib changes into a wide, partly rocky face, which can be overcome almost anywhere, some scrambling might be needed, depending on the itinerary you take. You reach P. 2749 on the ridge and the normal route to Badus. Numerous cairns show the way through the scree of the north face to the summit (2928 m), where some scrambling is required.
Badus / Six Madun – P. 2627
From the summit descend on the same route to P. 2749. From here keep following the cairns, later on the more and more visible path until the crest with the bifurcation at P. 2627.
P. 2627 – Oberalppass
Descend on one of the trails charted on the map to P. 2390 and Lai da Tuma. At P. 2351 follow the signpost towards Oberalppass: at first the trail descends to Trutg Nurschalas, traverses below the rocky promontories of Pazolastock and leads ascending to Oberalppass and the train station (ca. 2035 m) at the eastern end of the lake.
Additional information
- Difficulty / Material
-
Challenging route finding between Rossboden and the foot of Six Madun Egg. Six Madun Egg is grassy, interspersed with rocks and boulders. A path is visible almost on the entire segment. Some scrambling is needed right at the top, shortly before P. 2749. Some orientational skills are required, and the remoteness of the tour should not be underestimated. In wet conditions the route becomes challenging!
