Anticipated for years; realised on April 12, 2016. The national importance of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch" can be seen on the new CHF 50 note, which depicts the Aletschhorn in all its glory, surrounded by its 9 neighbouring 4000 m peaks; a lone paraglider soaring overhead. The Grosses and Hinteres Fiescherhorn and the Grosse Grünhorn in particular, stand out in the background. The Schinhorn is visible too, and further down, the Lonza Horns; all are captured from atop the Lötschental Breithorn. To the left of the Schinhorn you can see the Sattelhorn, and to the right of it, half in the shade, the little Aletschhorn. If you turn the note over the view extends to the additional peaks of Lötschental. These now immortalised scenes can be seen when you step of the bus at Fafleralp or Gletscherstafel and hike into the valley. Far off, the Anenhütte sits in its idyllic surrounding; further still, on the horizon, the Lötschenlücke and Hollandiahütte stand. Below the Anenhütte, the via ferrata awaits those seeking a slice of adventure. A great day out, even if the deep view of the rapidly melting Langgletscher is sad.
