Less direct than the ascent via Tätsch, but a more likely starting point, since the Furkapass road is usually only cleared up to Hotel Tiefenbach.
Route description
Tiefenbach - Albert-Heim-Hütte
From Tiefenbach (2106 m) head approx. 300 m along the pass road to the bridge over the Tiefenbach (2126 m). Climb the south-facing slopes up to the bowl of Älpetli and follow the line of the stream NE towards the Schafberg. Bear NW towards the lake at 2500 m avoiding the steepest terrain, then arc round E to reach the hut.
Realp - Tiefenbach
If the road is not open, or if you are arriving by train you can start directly from Realp; follow the road to P. 1619, then cut off the hair pins by ascending straight up W towards Chumme and on to Hotel Galenstock (closed in winter). From here join the road again and continue along to Tiefenbach.
Additional information
- Remarks
-
If the temperatures are too high, the southern slope by the Furkapasss road below Hotel Tiefenbach has high risk of avalanches. If this is the case, you should ascend via Tätsch (2272 m).
The Furkapass road is usually open to private traffic up to Tiefenbach in May. Check their website for details: www.hotel-tiefenbach.ch
